Empowering Tomorrow’s Innovators
The Code for Egypt (CFE) 2024 program, co-organized by Code.X, Harmony Education and Lotus Education aimed to provide high school students in Egypt with hands-on learning in technology and creative thinking. The program was designed to develop students’ Python programming and Human-Centered Design skills while promoting teamwork, cultural exchange, and personal growth.
Meet Our Lovely Instructors
Yasoob Rasheed: Graduated from The University of Chicago with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in English & Creative Writing. Currently working at Alchemy, a blockchain infrastructure company in New York City, years with Code.X, contributing to curriculum development, fundraising, and camp management in Albania.
Vicky Zheng: Senior graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA, with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
Shelby Elizabeth: Graduated from Stanford University (BS in Chemistry and MS in Engineering, both from 2020). Working in Brooklyn, New York, Teaching with Code.X for Albania programs.
Zalan Shah: Graduated from the University of Michigan, USA, with a degree in Computer Science.
Program Impact
Student Growth
The program significantly enhanced students’ coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and English communication.
Many participants reported increased confidence in learning new subjects, solving problems independently, and presenting their ideas.
Many students expressed interest in pursuing technology-related majors at university, with 27% planning to major in computer science, computer engineering, or IT.
Culture Exchange
Students benefited from interacting with North American instructors, which exposed them to Silicon Valley culture and Western education methods. This interaction also enhanced their ability to communicate in English.
The program also cultivated cross-cultural connections, allowing instructors to immerse themselves in Egyptian culture through shared experiences such as group meals and sightseeing excursions.
Python Programming
The program introduced students to fundamental concepts of Python programming, a language known for its simplicity and power in both beginner and professional settings.
Human Centered Design
Complementing the technical curriculum, this module focuses on developing student’s ability to approach problems with empathy and creativity.
